Texas A&M University System Regents Sam Torn and Kelley Sullivan Georgiades visited Los Alamos National Laboratory in June to learn more about the Nuclear Security Office of the Texas A&M University System’s role in managing the facility.

Thanks to sponsorship from the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO), a team of Texas A&M engineers will work towards finding alternative ways to power jet engines. Their research is focusing on hydrogen-based alternatives due to its accessibility and the creation of vapor and steam when burning, rather than the carbon dioxide that comes from jet fuel.

As their senior Capstone project, Tanvi Barai, Addison Bouillion, Nithin Chidambara, Vansh Tandon and Katherine Tugwell - in partnership with the MD Anderson Cancer Treatment Center - developed a customizable therapy for cervical cancer that can automatically tailor radiation treatment for the unique dimensions of each patient’s tumor.
Recreational fishing is historically undermeasured, making it difficult to prevent overfishing.
Dr. Alan Kuhnle is using smartphones and machine learning to change that and to help with sustainable fisheries management in the Gulf Coast.

Texas A&M Ocean Engineering’s Pete Crossan is investigating wire rope integrity to ensure the safety and longevity of a complex wire rope system submerged in a deep freshwater lake—working with infrastructure that’s been in service for over 30 years! By combining in-depth metallurgical analysis with rigorous mechanical evaluations, Pete is working to predict how much longer this critical infrastructure can operate safely.

The Traveling Aggies program offers former students, current students, their families and friends of Texas A&M the opportunity to travel and enjoy the camaraderie of fellow Aggies. More than 80 trips each year include experiences and itineraries not typically available to individual travelers.
