The Astronaut Scholarship is awarded to juniors and seniors in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields and is one of the largest merit-based scholarships for undergraduates. In 2026, the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation awarded 79 scholarships to exceptional students across the nation who show initiative and creativity in their chosen field.

Thanks to sponsorship from the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO), a team of Texas A&M engineers will work towards finding alternative ways to power jet engines. Their research is focusing on hydrogen-based alternatives due to its accessibility and the creation of vapor and steam when burning, rather than the carbon dioxide that comes from jet fuel.

As their senior Capstone project, Tanvi Barai, Addison Bouillion, Nithin Chidambara, Vansh Tandon and Katherine Tugwell - in partnership with the MD Anderson Cancer Treatment Center - developed a customizable therapy for cervical cancer that can automatically tailor radiation treatment for the unique dimensions of each patient’s tumor.
